A blast hit near a mosque in Nairobi’s predominantly Somali region, Eastleigh late yesterday evening.
A hand held grenade is said to have being hurled at the area
MP as he left Hidaya Mosque with others after Isha prayers.
The blast killed 2 people instantly and injured at least 15 others,
mostly civilians.
Mr. Yusuf sustained varying injuries to his lower body
although he is said to be in a stable condition.
Mr. Yusuf is the first ethnic Somali to be elected MP for
Kamkunji constituency where the famous Eastleigh Estate is located.
He is credited with improving infrastructure in the region
specially constructing roads.
This attack has solicited condemnation from various local
and international leaders including Somalia’s President, Hassan Sheikh
Mahamoud.
