Heavy fighting is raging on between the Somali National Army and the Kenya Defense Forces on one side and Al-Shabab on the other.
The fighting is said to have broken out after the Somali government
forces who were on the offensive attacked Al-Shabab base in a region known as
Siyeelow which is part of the Lower Juba region.
Fighting is also reported to be raging on midway between
Biibi town and Harmoole.
Somali Government Forces and Al-Shabab Fighters administer
the two towns respectively.
Kenyan jet fighters and combat helicopters are also said to
be taking part in this latest assault on Al-Shabab positions in the Lower Juba region.
Both Al-Shabab and Somali government officials in the
region are yet to comment on this latest in a string of bloody encounters and it’s
difficult to establish independently the number of casualties or losses arising
from such clashes in remote areas.
